Here are two different story boards I drew while we were still deciding what would happen while the rabbit was in the box.
1) in this story the rabbit fades to white and the only colour seen is the blue in his tears and the colour of his friends.
2) In the second animation the rabbit starts to fade but the colour bursts back as he touches the tail.

Sculpted Character
We first decided our animation would be part stop motion and part 2D changing from one to the other when the mood of the character changed so I sculpted my character from plasticine to see what he would look like in 3D. I started with a metal wire bent into the shape of my character and cover it in tape to make the character lighter when all the plasticine is put on i then sculpted most of the character with just my hands and used a knife to scratch feathers into his skin and the handle of the knife for the indent of his eyes.
(The character will not be black I just only had black plasticine.)

Essay Ideas and Presentation
After looking into a few of these ideas further I decided my question would be 'How has the Quay Brothers use of puppet animation influenced modern day stop motion?'

First semester-panning animation
This was my first animation on after effects, I did the timing wrong and the animation moves too slowly but I couldn't speed it up without redoing the whole thing. I used a red light to darken one side and illuminate the character in red.

Bird Character - Development
I developed the character further to have features and detail trough these images.

I drew out a few variations of bird becks from looking at multiple images on Google but decided the long bent beck added a strong feature to the character. I also looked at developing the arms to have more human like hands but in the end decided a wing would work fine as long as the end was fold able so the character can still be animated to its full potential.
I used a blue silhouette as blue is a good colour to represent sadness, I also decided to make my character a bird as the feathers and long beak would represent a person been self-conscious of there skin or facial features which can lead to depression.

Self Harm Brief-Ideas and research
After researching self harm and discussing ideas we decided the characters in our animation would be animals as this will allow us to show our characters feeling emotional without it causing the viewer to feel the same. We all created a character based on a different animal and decided to develop them further while we thought up ideas for the narrative.
We realised while researching self harm that it would be best if we didn't show our characters physical self harming as this could be a trigger for the viewer but instead decided to focus more on how the characters feel and how people can get over self harming.
We also decided to stay away from the colour red as this can also be a trigger.
This is my initial drawing for my bird character.
Idea/ Storyboard
'It Gets Better As You Grow'
For this i thought we could show the transition from been a teenage to been an adult by having the main character starting off at school and having a hard time (maybe for this we could have the main charcter a different animal to everyone else showing they feel they dont fit in) then going to university where they slowly become happyer because they meet people more like them (same animals). Throughout the story we could have the charcters features changing from the animal to more human to show that they are starting to feel more confident in their own skin.
Research
We looked at an animation called ' when the day breaks' as the animals in this animation were humanoid similar to the characters we were developing. The mood of the animation changes as the day progresses and shows the pig character getting more depressed which makes for a good study for our animation.
